Unforeseen Weather Conditions

Today started with a chill in the air and overcast skies, so we wrapped up warm and set out to see Sedone. Stopped at a viewing spot and this is the view.
In this part of Arizona it's known as the Red Rock State. You might be able to see why.

Ten miles up a mountain road we ran into a little weather front.

We had 5 miles riding through this weather before Gary did a pirouette on his Goldwing and then Steve dropped his Wing trying to turn round. We tried to make our way back down the mountain but even the superb handling Harleys were losing grip. So we decided to STOP and wave down a passer by.

I didn't drop it.

Got a bit dirty though.

First passer by happened to be a highway patrolman. He told us the weather was bad in both directions and he called for two tow trucks.
There was no mobile phone signal so this guy was a sight for very cold eyes.

All four bikes on the back of the tow trucks.
We are now refering to this trip as the Gary Pavey Tow Truck Tour. They took us to our next hotel.
We must have passed 4 or 5 bike on the road either being recovered or abandoned.

On a lighter note, this is a bar stool in the restaurant next to our hotel.  It's where we will eat tonight.
They have a mad barman called Dave and typical country entertainment.

After a shower and a few glasses of the old 'vino collapso,' we are back to our happy selves.

With everything crossed, we are planning to get to the Grand Canyon tomorrow depending on the weather.
If it's snowing, I'm not going out.

MORE TOMORROW

  1. I am much happier now you have given us a low down on the bike and its performance and in particular the fact that your choice to ride the cruiser was the right one. Glad it is making you smile. Can't believe the post above, I didn't think Arizona ever got snow, my sister has lived there for years and don't think she has ever said there was snow. The photos of the cops and bikes on the truck are priceless tho
